Faster Write-Off of New Equipment Purchases

Code Section 179 expensing limits for new asset purchases increased to $250,000 from $128,000 and the phase-out threshold increased to $800,000 from $510,000.  In addition, the fifty percent first year bonus depreciation, on the cost of new equipment purchased, was reinstated.  These changes were scheduled to expire at the end of 2008, but have subsequently been extended (see Tax Law Changes Impacting 2009 Tax Returns).
